What the Card Lookup does

The Card Lookup gives you an instant meaning for any of the 78 tarot cards — the 22 Major Arcana and the 56 Minor Arcana across Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles. Start typing and the results filter in real time, grouped by suit, each showing the card's core keywords. It is the fastest way to jog your memory mid-reading, settle a “wait, what does that one mean again?” moment, or scan a whole suit at a glance.

Think of it as the quick-reference companion to our full card library. The lookup gets you to the right card in seconds; the in-depth card pages give you the full upright and reversed interpretations, symbolism, and reading advice. Every result links straight through, so you never have to hunt for the detail.

How to use it

How to read a card meaning in context

A keyword tells you what a card tends to mean. What it means for your question depends on three things:

A worked example

Say you draw The Tower in the “near future” position of a three-card spread, with the Ace of Pentacles beside it. The lookup gives you The Tower's keywords — sudden change, upheaval, revelation. On its own that reads alarming. But in context, the near-future position plus the Ace of Pentacles (new material beginnings) reframes it: a disruption that clears the ground for a fresh, tangible start — a job ending that frees you for a better opportunity, say. The keyword pointed you in; the position and neighbour told you what it actually means here.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know the exact card name to search?

No. The lookup matches on card names, keywords, and suit, so you can type a theme like “love” or “money”, a suit like “cups”, or a partial name like “tower” and still find relevant cards.

Does the tool show reversed meanings?

The lookup shows upright keywords for a fast overview. For the full upright and reversed interpretations, click any result to open that card's in-depth page — for example, The Fool.

How many cards can I look up?

All 78 — the 22 Major Arcana and the 56 Minor Arcana across Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles.

Are keywords enough to read a card?

Keywords are a starting point, not the whole story. A card's meaning shifts with its position in the spread, the surrounding cards, and whether it is upright or reversed. New to this? Our beginner's guide walks through the basics.

Can I look up how two cards work together?

Yes. This tool covers single cards; for pairings, use the Combination Lookup tool or browse the combinations library.
