asked to read on a runner/chaser dynamic, mixed feelings on the framework tbh. what cards actually come up for you all with this one?

i'd push back gently on the twin flame frame before the cards even come in. in my experience it lets people wait on someone who isn't showing up. the cards i see most are 8 of cups and 2 of swords, which read as one person walking away and one refusing to look. not fate, just two people dodging a conversation

honestly this. runner/chaser is just avoidant and anxious attachment with better branding imo

ok but as the resident emotionally unavailable one i gotta defend us a bit lol. not every 'runner' is an attachment case, sometimes the vibe is off and leaving is correct. agree the twin flame label makes it way more cosmic than needed though. half the time 8 of cups just means the door's right there

the door's right there 😠saving this

funny reading this thread. back in the 70s none of this twin flame language existed, you just said you were hung up on someone and your aunt told you to get over it. i don't think the feeling is new, just the vocabulary. the cards were saying the same things then, we just didn't dress it up as destiny

this thread is making me want to go make tea and think about my own avoidant era lol. no cards to add, just lurking with feeling

i'll share one since we're being honest. years ago i read for myself on a situation exactly like this, convinced the other person and i were some fated pair who kept missing each other. i pulled the 2 of cups reversed and the Moon, and i spun it into this whole story about divine timing and crossed wires. what it actually was: he wasn't that interested and i was reading hope into every card that came up. the Moon wasn't telling me to wait, it was telling me i couldn't see clearly, which included not seeing my own wishful thinking. took me a long time to admit the cards had been kind of blunt the whole time and i just didn't want to hear it. so when someone brings me a runner/chaser read now i'm very gentle, because i remember being the querent who only wanted one answer

that Moon read is so honest, thank you. i'd say the same to OP, the Moon here is usually about your own fog not theirs

this whole thread is gold 🌙 thank you all

worth noting 'twin flame' is a 20th century new age coinage, nothing to do with historical cartomancy. the cards predate the concept by centuries. carry on

wait really?? i genuinely thought it was an old tarot thing!! learning so much in this thread omg

was a runner once. cards didn't tell me to run, my therapist did. different tool for a different job tbh

the therapist line got me lol, well said

ok this is the first twin flame thread ive seen that didnt make me close the tab lol. everyone being normal about it and actually talking cards instead of destiny. thank u for not being weird about it, genuinely. the 8 of cups takes are gonna live in my head now

this turned into a really good thread, glad i asked

to answer my own question now it's cooked: for this i'd lay three cards, where each person is and what's actually between them. no outcome card. the 'between' slot is where the honesty lives. if 5 or 2 of swords lands there, the work isn't divination it's a conversation someone's dodging. leaving outcome out stops the querent fishing for a yes
5 Oct 2026
saving that three card layout, no outcome card is smart
↪ in reply to @pageofcups_ · 5 Oct 2026
seconding it. i'd add a 'what's yours to do' card off to the side, keeps focus on the querent not the person who isn't here

before anyone lays cards i'd ask OP something. reading this for a client or for yourself? it changes everything. for a client i'll explore the dynamic. for myself in a spot like this i've learned to put the deck down, because i already know what i want it to say and i'll bend every card to it. which is it?

for me this one keeps coming up as the Two of Cups reversed, the cups tipping so nothing pours between them. the feeling's real on both sides, it's fear holding it back. read the fear not the fate
↪ in reply to @softwitchhours · 5 Oct 2026
that reversed Two of Cups reading is lovely. quick question though, when you see it that way do you read it as one person pulling back or both at once? i've never settled how to call direction on a reversal like that. curious how you work it
