ive used the same classic deck for years, but lately i wish the people in the cards looked more like the world around me. different skin tones, body types, ages. not a political thing, i just connect harder when i can see myself and my friends in it. anyone have inclusive decks they love that still read like rider-waite? 🌸

oh i love this question, thank you for asking it the way you did, from connection rather than obligation. that framing matters. a few that genuinely deliver and still read cleanly if your muscle memory is rider-waite. the Modern Witch Tarot keeps the RWS structure almost beat for beat but the cast is contemporary and varied, so youll never feel lost on the meanings. the Next World Tarot is gorgeous and radically inclusive, a little more artistically loose so give yourself a week to settle in. the This Might Hurt Tarot is quietly one of the most diverse RWS-faithful decks out there and doesnt get mentioned enough. if you want softer art, the Fifth Spirit Tarot leans beautifully queer and gender-expansive. my honest advice is borrow or look up full walkthroughs before buying, because 'inclusive' gets used loosely and you want to actually see the full 78 before you commit. so happy you asked this here 🌙

seconding the Modern Witch rec from lived experience, its the one i hand to new readers in my little study group and nobody has ever struggled to map it back to standard meanings. ill add one that gets overlooked, the Numinous Tarot, which is lovely for a wide range of bodies, disabilities and gender presentations and the guidebook is genuinely thoughtful about it. one practical tip from years of buying decks i regretted. dont judge inclusivity by the box or the three cards they show in the ad. look up a flip-through of all 78, because a lot of decks put their diverse cards front and center for marketing and then the rest quietly defaults back. the ones hollowmoon listed hold up across the whole deck, which is the real test. and honestly, good on you for wanting to see your friends in your cards, that connection is half of what makes a reading land in the first place

when i started in the 70s your options were one deck and everyone in it looked the same. its moving how much the art has opened up since. i cant speak to the newest decks, but i picked up the Modern Witch on my granddaughters suggestion and she was right, it finally looks like a world i recognize
